His conviction that last year’s long-awaited Green Jacket would unlock further major success has proved well founded.
Twelve months on from ending an 11-year wait to complete the career Grand Slam at Augusta National Golf Club, the 36-year-old returned with a sense of freedom he had long anticipated.

Rory McIlroy once again denied Justin Rose, as the English veteran saw his long pursuit of a Masters title end in familiar frustration at Augusta National Golf Club.
Rose, 45, had been attempting to become the oldest first-time winner of the Green Jacket and briefly looked set to script a compelling final chapter when he moved into a one-shot lead midway through his round.

Yet with a congested leaderboard building pressure from behind, the dynamic shifted from their gripping duel 12 months earlier.
On that occasion, McIlroy had faltered under the weight of expectation while Rose surged through the back nine to force extra holes.
Here, the roles were reversed. Rose blinked first, dropping shots at Amen Corner’s 11th and 12th, while McIlroy, playing with a sense of freedom, held firm when it mattered most.
