Could 2025 be an exciting year for video games?
The video games indutry in 2025 could be very interesting
The new year is here, and with it comes a tidal wave of anticipation for some epic releases.
Last year’s Christmas gaming lineup was, let’s be honest, a bit underwhelming. Thankfully, 2025 is shaping up to be a lot livelier. Still, the two biggest mysteries of the year remain: when will Nintendo finally unveil the Switch 2, and is GTA 6 actually coming before autumn? Rockstar seems confident, but let’s not get our hopes up too high until we see something more concrete.
This article will explore what else could be happening over the next twelve months.
Will the Switch console be getting an upgrade in 2025?
Almost confirmed new releases
September – EA Sports FC 26
After dominating the charts in 2024, you can bet your last quid that EA Sports FC 26 will land this year. The exact date’s still under wraps, but rest assured, it’s coming. It will be interesting to see what improvements EA makes to the new game. The usual focus around Ultimate Team is expected to stay.
October – Call of Duty
Surprise, surprise – there’s another Call of Duty on the way. Rumour has it this year’s instalment is a direct follow-up to 2012’s Black Ops 2, blending its iconic narrative with a fresh, modern twist on the action.
Big games that we should see in 2025
Fable
Microsoft’s long-awaited Fable reboot has been a long time coming, but with British comedic gems like Richard Ayoade and Matt King involved, it’s got all the makings of a classic. That said, we’re still in the dark about how the action-RPG gameplay will hold up. The trailer below has certainly developed our interest in the game.
Doom: The Dark Ages
This one’s a bit of a mystery, but the whispers suggest a medieval-themed prequel exploring the Doom Slayer’s origins. Sounds like a wild ride, doesn’t it?
Grand Theft Auto 6
It’s the big one. The most hyped game in history is supposedly hitting shelves this autumn. But with no confirmed date, there’s are growing fears that GTA 6 might slip into 2026. Please note that the trailer below might contain scenes that are unsuitable for children and other young people.
What about some new consoles?
The Nintendo Switch 2 is the wildcard here. Some reckon it could launch as early as March, which would certainly spice things up. If the rumours are true and it’s as powerful as the Xbox Series S, we might see a wave of third-party games making their way to Nintendo’s shiny new hardware.
Whatever happens, 2025 is shaping up to be a massive year for gaming. Time to start clearing your backlog because the good stuff is just around the corner.
