Our favourite Christmas films
It's time to explore the blog's favourite Christmas films.
Are we all about Home Alone? Is it not just Christmas without The Muppets? Is Die Hard even a festive film? Keep reading to find out more

Elf
Will Ferrell’s unforgettable performance as Buddy, a human raised by elves in the North Pole, transformed Elf into a beloved modern Christmas classic. The film follows Buddy’s hilarious adventure to New York City in search of his real father, spreading festive cheer wherever he goes. Full of laughter, heartwarming moments, and Ferrell’s unique charm, it’s no wonder this film has become a holiday favourite for all ages.
Home Alone
This well-known comedy follows the story of 8-year-old Kevin McCallister (played by Macaulay Culkin), who is accidentally left home alone during Christmas while his family goes on vacation. When burglars attempt to break into his house, Kevin cleverly sets up a series of booby traps to protect his home. The film’s blend of family-friendly humor and heartwarming moments made it a lasting holiday classic. There was a sequel that soon followed and that was almost as good. This will always be our favourite though.
The Muppet Christmas Carol
Not only is this one of the best Christmas films, but it is the best screen adaptation of the Charles Dickens novella. The production is beautifully crafted, with a hilarious script, enchanting sets, incredible puppeteering, and outstanding acting. It's truly impressive how the human performers maintain a serious demeanor while interacting with a vibrant cast of singing and dancing furry Muppets.

Jingle All The Way
For us, this is an underrated classic. The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad as Howard Langston and Myron Larabee, two rival fathers living in Minneapolis desperately trying to purchase the Turbo-Man action figure for their respective sons on a last-minute shopping spree on Christmas Eve. It's funny, it's heartwarming. A perfect one to watch with the family on Christmas Eve.
Die Hard 2
Maybe this isn't one to watch with all the family. Is this even a Christmas film? Well, yeah it is. It takes place on Christmas Eve, something that is very much central to the plot.
Like the first film, the focus is on John McClane. This time, he is waiting for his wife to land at Washington Dulles International Airport when terrorists take over the air traffic control system. He must stop the terrorists before his wife's plane, along with several other flights circling the airport, runs out of fuel and crashes. Throughout the night, McClane also has to deal with airport police and a military commander, neither of whom want his help.
