We ask our writers what they're doing for New Years Eve
As the countdown to 2025 begins...
People across the UK are gearing up to celebrate New Year’s Eve in their own unique ways.
For some, it’s a chance to let loose and party; for others, it’s about quiet reflection and meaningful connections. We will delve into the plans of five Super News Affiliate writers (Liam, Olivia, Amy, Sophie, and William).
A night at the pub with friends
Liam has opted for a classic British New Year’s Eve: a lively night at his local pub. They will be hosting a special themed event featuring live music and a countdown on the big screen.
He added: “There’s nothing quite like the atmosphere of a proper pub on New Year’s Eve. The place will be packed with familiar faces, and it’s always great to share that midnight cheer with everyone.”
A celebration in London
Olivia is trying to forget Manchester United's poor run of form and is attending a black-tie gala at a luxury hotel in the heart of the city. The evening promises champagne receptions, a gourmet three-course meal, and a spectacular fireworks display from the hotel’s rooftop terrace.
A family-friendly celebration at home
For Amy, New Year’s Eve is all about family. With two young children aged five and seven, she’s opted for a cosy evening at home filled with games, snacks, and an early “kid-friendly” countdown. She is also excited for New Years Day and watching Wigan Athletic playing Huddersfield Town in League One.
She added: "The kids get so excited about New Year’s, but they’re not quite old enough to stay up until midnight. We’ve created our own tradition where we do a countdown at 9 pm and let them feel like they’re part of the celebration.”
A quiet retreat in the countryside
Sophie prefers a quieter way to welcome the New Year. This year, she’s booked a countryside retreat in the Cotswolds with a close friend. The two of them plan to spend the evening surrounded by nature, away from the hustle and bustle.
