For many, it was a moment 16 years in the making and it certainly lived up to expectations. Fans who had followed the band through their rise, fall, and years apart gathered once more to witness a reunion that promised to recapture the spirit of a defining era in British music.

The story of another memorable gig

Like the other gigs in Cardiff, Manchester and London, the night opened with sets from Cast and Richard Ashcroft. Cast were impressive again then the former front man of The Verve entered looking "super cool."

It was then time for the main act. As the minutes ticked down before Noel, Liam and Bonehead took to the stage, Underworld’s “Born Slippy” blared through the speakers, prompting an eruption of excitement before the familiar entrance music. Watching the Gallagher brothers again on stage together, arms raised and hands clasped, still feels genuinely surreal.

“Hello” provided a powerful opening, capturing the sentiment perfectly as Liam declared: “Oasis vibes in the area. Edinburgh vibes in the area.” It was a reminder that, after so long, it truly felt good to be back.

Before launching into ‘Acquiesce’, Liam told the crowd: “We’ve f****** missed you.” When Noel joined in on the classic Oasis B-side, it reaffirmed the unmistakable bond between the brothers on stage.

Any band would be proud if the last eight songs of their setlist were their enduring legacy and each track carried its own weight on this occasion. Liam made a special nod to first-time attendees, asking ahead of ‘Fade Away’: “Do we have any people that have never seen us before?”

The set culminated with ‘Champagne Supernova’, as fireworks lit up the Edinburgh sky. Liam closed with a warm acknowledgement: “Nice one for making this happen. It must be hard work following a band like us over the years.”

Reaction from those that were there

Friends Kelly Craig, 38, and Aimee Harris, 42, spent six hours on a party bus travelling from Cove, Aberdeen, to Edinburgh.

Kelly said the experience surpassed the excitement she felt when her hometown football team defeated Celtic in the Scottish Cup Final in May. Check out these clips that Kelly sent us.

She recalled: “I was at one of the Heaton Park concerts in Manchester in 2009 with my husband. We both agreed the gig was a better day than our wedding, they are that good.”

Nail technician Aimee added: “I went to the Loch Lomond concert in 1996 with my dad, but I was only 13. The nostalgia is incredible.”
