A rare win for Salford Red Devils over Castleford Tigers earlier this season.

A consortium headed by businessman Dario Berta took control on the eve of the season, but the campaign has been marred by late wage payments, a spate of player departures and a run of heavy defeats.

Sunday’s thrashing at Hull FC came at the end of a turbulent week in which Chris Hankinson, Chris Hill, Jack Ormondroyd and Ryan Brierley all left the club. With a squad hastily assembled from loan players, Salford were overwhelmed 80-6, conceding 14 tries.

In a statement, external issued late on Monday evening, the group said that bridge funding would be "available and settled" by the end of August, and that they remained "fully committed" to supporting the club sustainably.

One of the more interesting parts of the announcement reads: "Salford’s proud legacy remains one of its greatest strengths. As recent uncertainty subsides, the club is confident it will attract fresh talent inspired to contribute to the rebuilding of a storied institution. We are committed to creating an environment where players, staff, and supporters can thrive."

The statement also said that "an essential £1.8m investment" from an external backer, which had been anticipated for November 2024 had failed to materialise in the lead up to their takeover.

Salford, who have won only two of their 21 Super League matches this season and shipped 940 points, have six games left to play.

They also face a rescheduled winding-up petition from His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs on 3 September, having previously owed £500,000 before the case was adjourned in June.
