Before this landmark night, only Bradford Bulls, Leeds Rhinos, St Helens and Wigan had ever lifted the Super League trophy. Hull KR’s breakthrough ensured they would join that elite group, adding a third piece of silverware to their 2025 haul after earlier triumphs in the Challenge Cup and League Leaders’ Shield.
Brad O’Neill’s first-half yellow card for a tip tackle on Tyrone May proved pivotal, allowing Mikey Lewis and Joe Burgess to strike while Wigan were a man down. Harry Smith’s try briefly narrowed the deficit, but Jez Litten’s darting run and a late Burgess score sealed Hull KR’s first league title since 1984.
Wigan had threatened early when Bevan French’s electric burst from Liam Marshall’s kick looked set to open the scoring, only for replays to show he had lost control before grounding. A fierce opening spell, marked by Jared Waerea-Hargreaves’ crunching tackle on French, culminated in O’Neill’s sin-binning for his dangerous challenge on May, a decision that could easily have seen red.

Hull KR seized control almost immediately. Lewis’s deft dummy drew the Wigan defence out of shape before he glided over for his 21st try of the campaign, right in front of the Cherry and Whites’ fans at the Stretford End. Minutes later, Burgess crossed in the corner to stretch the lead further.
Wigan clawed back two points before the break through Adam Keighran’s ambitious long-range penalty, and Harry Smith’s well-worked try from Jai Field’s dummy gave them hope after the restart. But Keighran’s missed conversion proved costly. Rhyse Martin’s penalty soon restored Hull KR’s cushion before Litten’s incisive break and Burgess’s intercept try put the finishing touches on a night that will live long in Robins history.
