Their opening goal carried an element of good fortune, with Vitinha’s first-time strike from 20 yards initially veering wide before deflecting off Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and nestling into the net.

PSG doubled their advantage on the break as Achraf Hakimi rifled home following a well-timed pass from Bradley Barcola.

The French side were well worth their win in Seattle, with Desire Doue forcing three fine saves from Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei.

The hosts' best opportunity came when PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma misplaced a pass straight to Jesus Ferreira, but the forward could only fire over from a tight angle.

Vitinha was at the heart of the PSG midfield. 

The Portuguese midfielder completed 107 out of 113 passes and even provided an accidental assist for Kvaratskhelia. 

He is striving to win three continental or global trophies within six weeks, having already secured the Champions League title with PSG and the Nations League with Portugal.
