Rugby League | Hull KR v Catalans

Tom Davies, fresh from his Challenge Cup heroics, helped Hull KR extend their celebrations with the opening try in a dominant 12-try Super League rout of Catalans Dragons, whose evening unravelled following a first-half red card for captain Benjamin Garcia.

Davies, who scored the late winner that secured Hull KR’s first Challenge Cup triumph in 45 years just six days earlier, wasted little time in finding the line again at a jubilant Craven Park, where the French side crashed to a record defeat.

James Batchelor and Sauaso Sue also crossed before Catalans were briefly reduced to 11 men, Garcia dismissed just moments after Franck Maria had been shown a yellow card.

Batchelor grabbed a second try as Hull KR turned the screw, with Kelepi Tanginoa, Jack Broadbent and Mikey Lewis adding further scores to make it 36-0 at the interval.

Sue completed his brace before Luke Keary finally ended Catalans’ lengthy scoring drought with their first try in four matches. But it was a brief respite, as Lewis added his second, and late efforts from Noah Booth, Jai Whitbread and Tyrone May rounded off a merciless display that sent the league leaders four points clear at the top.

A party atmosphere at Craven Park

A nightmare season for Catalans

Catalans last got on the scoreboard 34 days ago, in their Challenge Cup semi-final defeat to Hull KR. That match marked the start of a run of three consecutive games without scoring, a slump in form that ultimately led to the dismissal of Steve McNamara after nearly eight years in charge of the Perpignan club.

Their failure to find an early breakthrough at Craven Park saw them set an unwanted Super League record for the longest period without scoring, surpassing the 259-minute drought suffered by Wakefield Trinity in 2023.

One fan responds

Thomas, a Hull KR fan, was delighted with the performance from the side: "It has been a special week for all fans of the club. We weren't sure what to expect in this match but that was a sensational performance. It feels like something magical is happening at the club."
