Kyle Feldt kicked two early penalties to edge the hosts in front, before Deon Cross crossed just before the break to give Saints a deserved half-time lead.

Leeds showed more purpose in the second half and gave themselves hope when Riley Lumb finished neatly in the corner, his 10th try of the campaign, after a searing break from Lachie Miller.

But the visitors struggled to build any sustained pressure, undone by a series of handling errors in sweltering conditions. Further tries from Owen Dagnall and Tristan Sailor sealed the points for a depleted St Helens side.

The Rhinos, who had won their previous five games, remain third on 20 points, while Saints sit two behind in fifth. The result also avenged last month's defeat at Headingley, where Leeds came out on top 17-4.

From the outset, the visitors looked short of rhythm. Feldt's penalties came after Harry Newman's high tackle and an offside infringement from James Bentley, typical of a scrappy opening spell from Brad Arthur’s side.

Their only clear chance in the first half followed a Ryan Hall interception, but the veteran winger was stopped in his tracks by a fine cover tackle from player-of-the-match Harry Robertson. Moments later, Leeds handed over possession in their own red zone, and Sailor fed Cross, whose slick dummy fooled Hall and opened the door for the game’s first try.

The Rhinos improved after the break and Miller’s elusive run opened up space out wide for Lumb to score. Jarrod O’Connor went close soon after, but Saints gradually regained control.

Their response came via a smart attacking move from a scrum, with Jonny Lomax and Sailor combining to release Dagnall. The winger cut inside to score his second try in as many starts, and Feldt’s conversion stretched the lead.

With Leeds completing just 69% of their sets and racking up 16 errors, the deficit proved too steep. Sailor added a late flourish, darting through the defence to round off a well-managed performance from Paul Wellens' side.
