News: Darts World Champion to be made Warrington citizen of honour
More success for Luke Littler
Fresh from his meteoric rise in the world of darts, he is set to receive one of his hometown’s highest honours.
The Warrington teenager, who was crowned BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in 2024, made history in January by becoming the youngest-ever winner of the PDC World Darts Championship.

On Monday, Warrington Borough Council is expected to formally recognise his achievements in a special meeting at Parr Hall, where he will be granted the title of honorary citizen.
Littler has been widely credited with sparking a surge in interest in darts, while also raising more than £1m for Prostate Cancer UK and supporting the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Despite only turning 18 recently, he has already claimed 11 senior PDC titles and currently holds the Premier League, Grand Slam, and World Series Finals crowns.
The council’s nomination statement traces his remarkable journey, from picking up a dart for the first time at just 18 months old to joining the St Helens Darts Academy at the age of eitalentl
His talent was evident early on—at 16, he reached the final of the 2024 PDC World Championship, securing a place in that year’s Premier League. Then, in January 2025, just weeks before his 18th birthday, he stunned the sport by defeating three-time champion Michael van Gerwen to become its youngest-ever world champion.

Littler’s impact on Warrington extends beyond darts. Earlier this month, Rugby League side Warrington Wolves announced they would rename their stadium after him for their opening home game of the Super League season.
It has been a busy few days for Littler. He was recently pictured with Pitbull on an Instagram. Something that sent the social media platform into something of a frenzy.
