LeBron James made NBA history once again, becoming the first player ever to hit 50,000 combined points as he powered the Los Angeles Lakers to a dominant win over the New Orleans Pelicans.

The 40-year-old superstar hit the milestone early in the first quarter of the Lakers’ 136-115 victory, collecting a pass from Luka Dončić before drilling a deep 25-foot three-pointer.

Already the league’s all-time leading scorer, James finished the night with 34 points, taking his career total to 50,033—over 6,000 ahead of second-placed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

His record-breaking tally includes an NBA-best 41,871 regular season points, alongside 8,162 in the playoffs, where he also holds the top spot.

James reached the landmark deep into his 22nd season, matching Vince Carter for the most campaigns played in league history.

Dončić provided strong support with 30 points, 15 assists and eight rebounds, as the Lakers extended their winning streak to seven games and climbed to second in the Western Conference.

Lakers icon Magic Johnson was among the first to pay tribute to James, celebrating the achievement on social media.

He is now level with Vince Carter for the most seasons played in NBA history.

He has been with La Lakers with since 2018, having had spells with Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat before that. During this career, he was been crowned as an NBA champion on four occasions.

Even in his 40s now, there are few signs of decline in his game. Earlier on Tuesday, he was named the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Month after an outstanding February, during which he averaged 29.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, 6.9 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. 

This season, he has played over 35 minutes per match, he helped the Lakers to a 9-2 record, propelling them into second place in the Western Conference.
