Gaming: The greatest tracks across the entire Mario Kart series
What’s your favourite track?
Ahead of the upcoming release of Mario Kart World on the Nintendo Switch 2, we thought we'd explore some of our favourite tracks from the iconic series.

5. Waluigi Pinball (Nintendo DS)
Before the release of this title, we had no idea that Waluigi was a pinball aficionado either. This is a colourful track with narrow, curved paths that resemble lanes inside a pinball machine. Our favourite section is the wide open area filled with round bumpers that racers fight desperately to avoid.
4. Rainbow Road (Nintendo 64)
Throughout the entire series, gamers have grown to both love and loathe Rainbow Road and its many adaptations. Our favourite version is from Mario Kart 64. Like all the others, it feels like something of an endurance race. However, the reward for finishing first (especially on 150cc) definitely gives you a sense of accomplishment.

3. DK Mountain (GameCube)
There's just so much going on here, we had to include it. At one point, you get launched out of a cannon. This is the series at its very best. Controversially, we’d also argue that Double Dash is the best entry in the series. Two characters per kart really added something unique to the experience.
2. Baby Park (GameCube)
There’s such simplicity and elegance in this one, we couldn’t place it anywhere but near the top. There’s a unique blend of chaos and skill-testing here, which makes it so enjoyable. It’s the perfect track for split-screen play with friends and family.
Remember split-screen? For anyone under the age of 25, that was when you were forced to play games against people in the same room as you. Crazy times.
1. Bowser’s Castle (Nintendo Wii)
We had to include Bowser’s Castle as our number one, but which version to choose? After much deliberation, we went with the one from the Nintendo Wii. What Nintendo achieved with this console was encouraging your grandparents to get involved. They were probably having a lovely old time, until this track came up.
Conclusion
With so many incredible tracks spanning multiple generations, choosing a definitive top five is no easy task. Yet the ones we’ve selected stand out for their creativity, challenge, and pure nostalgia. Whether you’re dodging bumpers on Waluigi Pinball or watching chaos unfold on Baby Park, each track holds a special place in Mario Kart history. There was a lot more we could have included aswell. With Mario Kart World just around the corner, we can’t wait to see which new tracks will join this absolute pantheon of classics.
