Gaming: Nintendo annouces more details for Switch 2
Will you be buying this console at launch?
Nintendo has officially unveiled the Switch 2, the long-anticipated follow-up to one of the most successful gaming consoles of all time, confirming a release date of 5th June.
Enthusiasts have been eager for updates since January, when the Japanese gaming firm finally broke its silence after months of speculation, offering the first hints about its next-generation device.
During a widely viewed Nintendo Direct presentation, which was streamed by over a million viewers, the company shared fresh details about the console’s capabilities and confirmed it would launch alongside Mario Kart World, a new entry in the hugely popular franchise.
Several other major titles were also announced for the platform, including Elden Ring and Street Fighter 6, indicating strong third-party support from day one.
Nintendo said the Switch 2 will offer improved graphics and audio, as well as a new in-game chat feature that allows players to speak to one another while playing, a first for the series.
Pricing will vary by region, but in the UK the console will be priced at £395, or £429 when bundled with Mario Kart World.
Speaking during the presentation, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa described the Switch 2 as “a leap forward,” arriving eight years on from the original Switch’s launch in 2017.

We spoke to a number of writers from across Super News Affiliate who shared their views on the console.
Amy W said: "It looks great. The only downside for me is the price. Especially when you compare it to something like the Xbox Series S."
Peter Grainger added: "Already looking forward to the latest Mario Kart game. It's been a long time since we've had a brand new one of those."
Sophie T wasn't entirely positive about the unveiling, saying: "Everything seemed so safe and unsurprising. I don't know what I wanted really but it wasn't that. I'm sure I'll get one eventually but I'm not sure it's a day one purchase."
