Rugby League: Huddersfield Giants 4 - 50 Hull KR
Mikey Lewis stars with hat-trick as Hull KR crush Huddersfield
Mikey Lewis ran the show with a hat-trick as Super League leaders Hull KR ran in nine tries to dismantle a struggling Huddersfield Giants side.
The dynamic half-back set the tone early, bouncing out of a tackle to release Oliver Gildart for the opening try in the sixth minute. Huddersfield briefly hit back with a superb solo effort from George Flanagan Jr, but that was as good as it got for the hosts.
Lewis responded immediately, crossing for Rovers' second before bursting 70 metres downfield to tee up new signing Arthur Mourgue for his first try in club colours.
The visitors showed no mercy after the break, running in six unanswered tries. Lewis completed his treble, while Jai Whitbread, Jez Litten, Sauaso Sue and Tom Davies also got on the scoresheet.
The emphatic win maintains Hull KR’s perfect start to the season, moving them three points clear at the top. Huddersfield, still winless, remain rooted to the bottom after a sixth consecutive defeat.
It was always going to be a daunting task for the Giants to halt their poor start against the league leaders. If coach Luke Robinson needed any reminder of the scale of the challenge ahead, this bruising encounter provided it, with Lewis putting on a masterful display.
The England international was at the heart of seven of Hull KR’s nine tries and dictated the game at will. His only misstep came when he was wrong-footed by a clever dummy from Flanagan Jr for Huddersfield’s solitary try.
Lewis swiftly made amends, stepping inside to shrug off defenders and power over for his first try despite the efforts of Irish prop Harry Rushton. Minutes later, he turned provider again, surging from deep before Peta Hiku set up Mourgue’s maiden score.

The second half was one-way traffic. Former Wakefield Trinity forward Whitbread crashed over from close range, capitalising on Lewis’ slick footwork to break the line. Moments later, Lewis kept his arm free from three defenders to offload for England teammate Litten to dot down.
With 20 minutes left, he bagged his second, finishing off a sharp break from Mourgue, shortly after Sue had muscled over.
His hat-trick was completed in the final 10 minutes when Gildart returned the favour with a blistering line break to set him up. There was still time for one final score as Tom Davies latched onto Tyrone May’s grubber to round off a ruthless performance that saw Rovers rack up 50 points.
